RBR Blog

bikephillycatrikeTravis is the webmaster, resident blogger, and A/V geek of RBR. He is a fan of recumbents but couldn't possibly talk in terms of gear ratios, so don't expect his blog entries to be a technical tour de force. But do expect them to be down to earth if not a little overenthusiastic at times.

And please excuse his strong bias for Catrike, Hase, and HP Velotechnik.

Catrike Dash photopalooza
Written by Travis Prebble

There's nothing that caps a successful Friday like using "palooza" at the end of a word. For example, what follows is a photopalooza of the Catrike Dash, a veritable recumbapalooza of trikapalooza proportions. And for those who have been wondering how the size of the Dash compares to other trikes, we lined it up with a Catrike Expedition. Of the other Catrike models, the Expedition most closely matched the frame shape of the Dash.

Kids say the darndest things - Parker Ball reviews the Catrike Dash

What a dilemma! A brand new Catrike Dash is delivered to your recumbent media outlet but all your adult staffers are too large to ride it. What do you do? Pull in the kids!

Parker Ball, son of Bryan Ball of 'BentRider Online, has been so kind as to provide the first review of the Catrike Dash and in video format. The color, safety, and stability all get good marks from Parker, though he is concerned that the styling might not fit what he and his friends typically look for in a bike.

Lightning Cycles infomercial
Written by Travis Prebble

A DVD arrived in the mail today containing what we think might be the first ever recumbent bike infomercial! Sure, it's only a short form commercial at just over four minutes, but it's at least an attempt at mainstream marketing. TerraTrike has been banging that gong for a while and has their own trike commercial, so it's great to see another manufacturer step up and get the word out on their products.

Word of advice, though - when selling recumbents to a new audience, do try to find somebody who can ride the bike without wobbling all over the bike path.

I feel the need, the need for...

... overquoted lines from Top Gun! Didn't see that one coming, did you? Chances are good you won't see this one coming either. It's a black Catrike 700 with a BionX electric assist and a tail sock.

Mind you, the sock is bright, so while you won't see it coming, you'll definitely see it going.

As I'm a failure as a poet, there is no way I can convey the feeling of accelerating to 20MPH in a parking lot. No sooner do you start pedaling than you're about to hit a curb. That's why we take this one around the block a lot.

Catrike 700 with BionX :: This thing is dangerously fun. Catrike 700 with BionX :: This thing is dangerously fun. Catrike 700 with BionX :: This thing is dangerously fun.
